At HALOED, we do not view this bill through partisan lenses. We see it as an urgent call to action, a defining moment where we must stand uncompromisingly for the rights and dignity of all people.

Health Care: From Right to Reward

This bill does what decades of attempts couldn’t: it turns healthcare from a right into a reward for those who work under strict terms. New Medicaid work requirements force adults between 19–64 to clock in 80 hours a month or risk losing their health insurance. Estimates suggest up to 17 million people could lose healthcare coverage by 2034 — an attack on families already managing multiple jobs just to survive.

Meanwhile, major insurers like UnitedHealthcare are already eyeing exits from Medicaid markets, especially in under-resourced communities. What happens when insurers abandon your ZIP code? The ER becomes the only option and we all pay the price.

Starving the Vulnerable

The bill slashes hundreds of billions from SNAP, the nation’s lifeline for millions of struggling families. By tightening work requirements and reducing state funding, it jeopardizes the food security of millions, especially seniors and individuals with disabilities. In communities where hunger was already a daily battle, this legislation deepens the crisis, undermining decades of progress in combating food insecurity.

Education as a Pitfall

Instead of opening doors, this legislation erects walls around education. Caps on graduate loan forgiveness and lifetime borrowing limits ensure that student debt becomes a life sentence rather than a stepping stone. The elimination of tax exemptions on forgiven loans will saddle graduates with unexpected tax burdens, threatening to derail dreams and futures.

Education, a pathway to equality, is being weaponized into a mechanism for economic control.

Tax Cuts for the Elite

While modest tax relief is extended to families and seniors, the true beneficiaries are high-income earners and large landowners. Rollbacks in estate and agricultural taxes fortify wealth accumulation for the privileged, while everyday Americans face deeper cuts to essential services.

This is not fiscal responsibility—it is systemic favoritism.

Militarization and Unprotected Lives

With billions allocated to expand ICE and border militarization, this bill prioritizes surveillance and deportation over humane immigration reform. It entrenches a culture of fear and exclusion, jeopardizing the safety and dignity of immigrant communities and threatening the rights of all who call this nation home.

A War on Clean Energy

By stripping incentives for renewable energy and clean technologies, the legislation reverses hard-won progress on climate change. Household energy costs are set to rise sharply, disproportionately affecting working families already vulnerable to economic instability. The potential loss of hundreds of thousands of green jobs threatens not only environmental goals but also the economic future of millions.

Legacy of Anti-Black Legislation

The bill’s cuts echo the historic injustice of redlining, marginalizing communities through lack of investment, denying access to health, food, energy, and economic opportunity. The ongoing consequences will be reduced polling access, voter suppression tactics, and economic disenfranchisement. Systemic inequity remains a lived reality.

HALOED’s Vision: Resistance, Renewal, and Reclamation

HALOED is not merely an observer but a catalyst for transformative change. Our fight is grounded in legal advocacy, community empowerment, and relentless accountability. We are mobilizing:

  1. Grassroots education on SNAP changes and health care navigation.

  2. Energy justice campaigns promoting local clean energy solutions.

  3. Voter empowerment to combat suppression and disenfranchisement.

This legislation is a reckoning with what America values. It is a call to those who believe in justice, equity, and humanity to stand firm. HALOED answers that call not with despair, but with unwavering resolve.

Our communities deserve more than scraps from a broken system. They deserve power, dignity, and hope.

We will not be silent. We will not be sidelined.

We will rise.
